About the Item
A high quality and most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Onyx and Ormolu urn/centerpiece. This beautiful urn is raised by a square Onyx block supported by four Ormolu maiden bust designed feet mounted on a mottled edged frame. Atop the Onyx base is an stepped spiral fluted Ormolu socle with foliate bands. The socle serves as the support for the two handles that extend up either side and are tastefully decorated with acanthus leaves and elegant maidens. The body of the Onyx urn is decorated by a fitted Ormolu Rocaille style band and a fine foliate Ormolu band around the neck. Around the rim of the urn is a mottled edge Ormolu band with rosette patterns throughout. The urn displays a smooth finished Ormolu interior.
