About the Item
A stunning and extremely decorated French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and patinated Bronze centerpiece. This wonderful centerpiece is raised by a triangular Ormolu base with concave sides and edged with seashell decorations with three patinated Bronze tortoises below. Atop the base are three interlocking Ormolu dolphins with their tails leading upwards and supporting the bowl above. Separating the three dolphin's heads are patinated Bronze seashells. Sitting on the head of each dolphin are patinated Bronze cherubs decorated with gilded accessories. These joyful cherubs are holding musical instruments, berried vines, wine glasses, and wearing berried laurel crowns. The under side of the circular Ormolu bowl is accented by elongated leaves paired with wheat sprigs. Along the sides are three patinated Bronze panels separated by scrolling Ormolu crests. The three panels showcase hanging birds flanked by hunting dogs, an array of fish surrounded by inquisitive egrets, and a vine of berries being stalked by jaguars in the jungle. Inside the beautifully finished bowl is a patinated Bronze circular plate in the center consisting of individuals celebrating, playing music, drinking wine, and dancing.
