Meissen Splendid Centerpiece With Music Playing Children, by Leuteritz, Mid-20th

About the Item

The centerpiece was designed by Leuteritz using old forms in Rococo style: High, round rocaille base, centered a high column, covered on the front and back with large rocaille panels, these surrounded by other rocaille elements and sculpted flower and leaf vines with a wide variety of blossoms, to the left and right of the column a seated girl with a guitar and a kneeling boy with a flute, on the upper, cantilevered end of the column is mounted an oval basket with a looped perforated pattern, outwardly curved wall with a wavy edge and two side handles, wall on the outside decorated with a variety of plastically formed flowers. Richly painted in bright colors, finely brushed floral bouquets on the panels and rich gold decoration Designed by ERNST AUGUST LEUTERITZ (1818-1893): He studied at the academy in Dresden, was a sculptor and from 1849 to 1886 he held the position of head of design at the Meissen porcelain manufactory, and in 1882 he became professor. He worked on vessel shapes and figures from the 18th century and designed vases, centerpieces and candlesticks in the styles of Rococo and Classicism. Design of model D 196 circa 1855-1863.
