Later solid silver lining executed by the silversmith COSSON CORBY. His pieces, intended for an aristocratic and bourgeois clientele, are distinguished by their architectural sobriety and the use of figures inspired by Antiquity. The Swan under the Empire A symbol of majesty, fidelity, and grace, the swan became a recurring motif in the decorative arts under Napoleon. Empress Josephine made it a personal emblem, particularly visible at Malmaison, where it adorned furniture, fabrics, and silverware. On this vegetable dish, the sculpted swan expresses the full grandeur of the imperial style, in which the animal acquired a decorative and political significance. The Vegetable Dish in the Art of the Imperial Table The central piece of tableware, the covered vegetable dish illustrates the codification of official banquets: vegetables, served in silver, were showcased in rooms with monumental decor. Adorned with coats of arms and symbols, they affirmed the power and rank of their owners.Symbole de majesté, fidélité et grâce, le cygne devint sous Napoléon un motif récurrent des arts décoratifs.
