About the Item
A Chinese Export Porcelain saucer dish after the ‘Dame Au Parasol’ design by Cornelis Pronk (1691 – 1759) commissioned by the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or V.O.C.) in 1737. Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759) was an accomplished painter and draftsman who was commissioned by the VOC in 1714 to provide designs for porcelain manufactured and painted in China.
Decorated in underglaze-blue, iron-red and gilt with ‘La Dame au Parasol’ after a design by Cornelis Pronk, the central scene with a lady holding a parasol above another woman standing near waterfowl on a grassy bank, within a narrow band of flower-sprays at the well, the border with figural and bird cartouches on a honey-comb pattern ground, the reverse with insects in underglaze blue.

This is a very good Chinese Export, (Canton) large porcelain plate or dish, all hand painted with a light green celadon glaze, which we date to the early 19th century, circa 1820, of the Qing dynasty.
A feature of this plate is its size, having a large dinner plate diameter of nearly 10 inches, as the majority of plates of this type have a much smaller diameter .
The plate has a light green, Celadon ground glaze with beautifully hand painted decoration, in over-glaze poly-chrome enamels of the Famille-Rose palette, featuring a bird, butterflies, fruits and flowers.
The rim is hand painted in a café-au-lait light brown finish.
There is an under-glaze, cobalt blue square seal mark, hand painted to the base.
