Mason's Ironstone Large Platter or Meat Plate in Flying Bird Pattern, circa 1880
About the Item
This is an ironstone large platter or meat plate in the flying bird pattern, made by Mason's Ironstone of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, during the 19th century, circa 1880.
The plate is rectangular in shape with canted corners, making an octagonal shape, with a notched rim.
The chinoiserie pattern is vividly hand painted over a printed blue outline with typical bold enamels of cobalt blue, burnt orange, green, yellow, mauve and red all in various shades, with additional hand gilded detail to the bird and central flower. This well collected pattern is illustrated on page 121 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns", published by The Mason's Collectors' Club.
The plate is fully marked, with a Mason's round crown and banner, blue printed mark to the base, together with some impressed marks.
