19th C. French Henriot Quimper Faience Wall Plaque with Breton Dance Scene
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorative wall plaque from the renowned Henriot faïencerie in Quimper, Brittany, dating to circa 1880. Measuring 20.25 inches wide by 10.5 inches high, this elongated oval plaque is hand-painted with a vibrant Breton folk dance scene, featuring villagers in traditional costume celebrating outdoors to the sound of musicians, while others look on. Above the scene, a finely detailed armorial crest inscribed with “AMAVIE” lends a noble touch, framed by intricate cobalt blue scrollwork on a cream ground with ochre edging. Henriot Quimper, established in the late 17th century, became one of France’s most celebrated faience producers, known for its distinctive regional themes and hand-painted craftsmanship. This piece bears the Henriot Quimper signature and the model number 155 on the reverse, along with its original wire for wall display. A superb example of antique Breton...

French “Bleu de Nevers” Faience Smoking Service Tray, by Montagnon
Located in Dallas, TX
This lovely French “service fumeur en faïence”, or earthenware smoking service, has five pieces: a tray, and four pots of various sizes. Although every smoking set is unique, we presume theses pots are a tobacco pot to store the dried leaves, an ash receptacle, a pot for holding papers to hand roll cigarettes and/or cigars and a pot for keeping matches. Our set was produced in Nevers, France in the 19th century by Montagnon, the oldest earthenware factory in France. Originally called manufacture du Bout du monde (“End of the World factory”), the factory was founded in 1648. By 1875, the factory had fallen on hard times and was bought by Antoine Montagnon. Within the five years, it was the only faïencerie left in Nevers. Montagnon was successful for over a century but eventually ceased operations in 2015. The production date of our smoking service set is from the late 1800s. Glazed earthenware was introduced from Italy to Nevers in the mid-16th century. The town already had existing porcelain factories and the area was flush with clay deposits that could be used in pottery. This allowed the influx of Italian potters in Nevers to begin producing Faience pieces. For the next 300 years, Nevers was the center for French Faience manufacturing. This smoking set has been decorated with painted birds, rinceaux of flowers and ornamental motifs. The blue background color is called Persian blue, and was extensively used as a ground color on Nevers Faience...

Mid-Century French Saint Clement Barbotine Faience Oyster Plates '6' and Dish
Located in Dallas, TX
These colorful antique plates and matching serving platter were created in France circa 1920, by the Saint Clement factory. The hand painted Majolica service features 6 round plates and one charger, all having oyster shaped and lemon wedge motifs. Every piece is marked underfoot "St Clement France". The set is in excellent condition with rich colors in the green and yellow palette. The faience factory of Saint-Clement, 12 kms from Lunéville, was established in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette, who already owned another one in Lunéville. With this second factory he aimed at the higher segment of the market with prestigious objects. The factory received because of this a label as Royal Suplier for Marie-Antoinette's Trianon. After Jacques died in 1758, his son Gabriel became the new owner. Between 1759 and 1763 the factory was managed by Charles Loyal, Jacques Chambrette's son-in-law, Paul Louis Cyfflé and the architect Richard Mique, who owned half the factory in 1786. In the 18th century Saint-Clément produced domestic objects of ordinary earthenware, luxurious objects and decorative objects of fine earthenware (so-called "terre de pipe"). Between the first quarter of the 19th century and 1892 both current utensils of ordinary earthenware and fine earthenware are produced and decorative objects of grand and petit feu (Emile Gallé). In the second half of the 19th century the factory reproduced Louis XIV objects, among them objects with very unnatural forms, where they attempted to imitate the multicolored decorations of Strasbourg faience...

Plate, Delftware, 1742, Dutch, Thomas and Mary Bingham, Yarmouth, 1742, Suffolk
Located in BUNGAY, SUFFOLK
The inside centre decorated with the inscription, “Thomas and Mary Bingham In Yarmouth 1742”, inside a medallion. The rim decorated with six artemisia leaf reserves, with trellis borders interposed. The rim brown. Restoration to a rim glaze chip. Decorated in blue on a white glaze. Probably Dutch, second quarter of the 18th century. Provenance: Thomas Bingham was christened in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, on November 14, 1697. Thomas Bingham married Mary Dent at Woodbridge in Suffolk on 24th August, 1721. Thomas and Mary Bingham had a daughter Ann christened in Yarmouth on December 17, 1727. Thomas Bingham was buried in Great Yarmouth on July 6, 1774. Thomas, a son of Thomas and Mary Bingham, was christened in St. John Maddermarket, Norwich, on December 3, 1775. In the Universal British Directory of 1793-8, Woodbridge is described as a maritime town situated near the River Deben on the turnpike road leading from London to Yarmouth. It is about 77 miles from London and as Great Yarmouth is 123 miles from London, the distance by road between the two places is about 50 miles. The River Deben, on which the town is situated, is stated to have been navigable up to the town where there were two quays. There is no-one named Bingham listed in Woodbridge in the entry for the town in the Universal British Directory. In the printed Freemen of Yarmouth, a John Bingham is the only entry under the surname. He became a freeman in 1721, having been an apprentice of John Cooper. There is no mention of the surname in the three volume Perlustration of Great Yarmouth by C J Palmer...
