About the Item

Origin: The Netherlands Period: 19th Century Materials: Sterling silver, cobalt blue cut glass Includes: Mustard pot with lid and spoon notch, pepper shaker, and two open salt cellars Diam. 5 cm Alt. 10 cm Alt. 3,5 cm Description A superb 19th-century Dutch silver condiment set, consisting of four elegantly coordinated pieces — a mustard pot, a pepper shaker, and two salt cellars — each featuring cobalt blue cut-glass liners housed in pierced silver casings with Neo-Gothic arched detailing. The vibrant cobalt glass, cut in a diamond pattern and impeccably preserved, contrasts beautifully with the fine silver Gothic-style openwork, which features pointed arches reminiscent of cathedral windows. Each piece stands on small silver ball feet, lending the set a refined and balanced profile. The mustard pot is fitted with a hinged domed lid and retains its original spoon notch and handle, while the pepper shaker features a matching domed top with delicate perforations. All silver mounts are finely beaded along the rims, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship typical of Dutch silversmiths of the period. Condition Excellent antique condition. The glass liners are intact with no visible chips or cracks. Silver mounts are well preserved with minimal surface wear and retain crisp detailing. Hallmarks (where present) remain legible. Notes A rare and collectible table service ensemble, this set combines Gothic Revival elegance with Dutch silversmithing precision, ideal for refined dining settings or display in period collections. Functional and highly decorative, it reflects the 19th-century European taste for intricate craftsmanship and dramatic materials.
