About the Item

Cute Fachschule Haida Enamel and Cut flower footed Bowl. Hand cut and enamelled with stylised polychrome flowers -very typical of the Haida school -This dates to around 1910. The Flower design and similar ones are well document and are featured in many books on Bohemian glass. The Fachschule Haida was the workshop of the famous Haida glass school - to promote their skills and generate income the Professors at the school would create designs and the students would cut and enamel them -there was no factory - all the work was done and the pieces created by the Professors and their students -It was one of only three Bohemian glass schools; it was later renamed Nový Bor and still exists today

Fabulous Orivit signed metal and cut glass Tazza in exceptional condition. The base is a stunningly Art Nouveau sinuous gold coloured metal, with a flower head knop to hold on the glass top. It is signed Orivit 2259 on the base dating it to around 1900. The top is clear colourless glass with a wavy edge and cut with branches and leaves. Orivit A.G. Cologne-Ehrenfeld & Braunfels. Rhine Province or Rhenish Prussia, Prussia (now North Rhine-Westphalia) Silberschmied / Silversmiths The company was founded in 1894, as "Rheinische Broncegiesserei für Kleinplastiken " in Köln-Ehrenfeld by Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schmitz (b.1863 - d.1939). From 1896 they started making luxury items in a new alloy,"Orivit Metal", consisting of 89.85% pewter 7.9 % antimony 1.9 % copper and 0.12 % silver. In 1900 the factory changed its name to "Orivit A.G. fur Kunsthandwerkliche Metalwarenfabrikation" and in 1901/02 a new factory was built in Cöln- Braunfels, complete with a revolutionary new Huber Presverfahren hydraulic press, capable of producing 3650 kiloponds per square centimetre. Finding itself in financial difficulties, Orovit A.G was purchased in 1905 by Württembergische MetallwarenFabrik. In 1906 Orivit A.G. acquired Orion and 60 of their designs were carried over into the Orivit range.
