About the Item

Large Steuben Blue aurene baluster vase, in an amazing colourway - it is blue aurene cased over a very thick layer of Yellow -Green uranium glass giving the vase an ethereal glow -and glows amazingly under a black light. An amazing creation by Frederick Carder. This colour combination was originally conceived as a Cameo blank but the colour effect was so striking they sold them un cut too. Frederick Carder (1863 – 1963) was a glassmaker, glass designer, and glass artist who was very active in the glass industry in both England and the United States, notably for Stevens & Williams and Steuben, respectively. Known for his experimentation with form and colour, Carder's work remains popular among collectors and can be found in numerous museum collections, including The Corning Museum of Glass, which houses the Frederick Carder Gallery. He was born in Staffordshire, England, and died in Corning, New York, where he had made his home since 1903
