Additional Information :
This very rare sculptural bowl was designed around 1960 and produced in very small quantities over a short period of time. It was produced in three sizes, of which this is the largest. The colour, similar to 'Topaz' is known as 'Rosalin.'
The form is typical of designs at Moser at the time, being geometric and heavily blown, with thick walls and curving, polished areas. However, the sculptural form created by the combinationof a star or cog shape with a 'pebble' form raised on a foot is highly unusual.
Although unmarked, this is not unusual for Moser pieces from this period, and this example has been authenticated by the Moser company archive as Moser product number 1619/10, designed by Oldrich Lípa around 1960.
Oldrich Lípa (1929-2014) studied at the Technical School of Glassmaking in Novy Bor from 1948-50, and then the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague under Professor Kaplicky from 1950-55. He joined the Moser glassworks in 1955 and worked there as a designer until 1981. His designs were ihncluded in the XI Milan Triennal in 1957, the Expo '58 World Exposition in Brussels in 1958, the XII Milan Triennal in 1959, the Expo '67 World Exposition in Montréal in 1967, and international festivals of glass including those held in Moscow, Corning USA, and Sao Paolo in 1959.

Mark Hill Comments :
The Duha range is typified by a 'rainbow' of horizontal bands in vibrant green, orange and blue, and heavily cased forms. Shapes are typically curving and organic, echoing the ductile, rounded nature of molten glass.
Itw as introduced in 1960, with the first designsb being by Vlastimil Svoboda. The range was enlarged in 1964, with new shapes designed by Vladimir Mika, although Svoboda also lays claim to these. These additional shapes were the last to be introduced at the Mstisov glassowrkds before it was closed and production was moved to the Moser glassworks at Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad).
Ovoid vase forms were produced using the 'wet stick' process, where a wet stick was thrust into the molten body of the piece when it was being formed. The water in the stick would turn to steam and expand the body. It would then be finished.
Quality was always high and examples with even and strong colours are now highly sought-after.
The range was produced from 19609-64 at Mstisov and then from 1964 to around 1971 at Moser. It was featured in Czechoslovak Glass...
