Janice Tchalenko Hand Painted Patchwork Studio Pottery Jug

About the Item

A very fine and unique reduced stoneware studio pottery large jug hand painted with patch work designs by renowned potter and artist Janice Tchalenko (British, b.1942) and believed to date from around 1980. Janice Tchalenko is one of the most imaginative colorists to emerge from the postmodern British studio pottery scene and an exceptional thrower. She trained at the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London and became a fellow of the Royal College of Art in 1987. She is a highly renowned and accomplished artist and her pieces have very distinctive and colorful appearance. This wonderful well potted jug is of large conical shape standing on a flat base with a grooved strap handle applied to the side. The body of the jug is hand decorated in patches of color with a strong dominance of brown tones against a drab brown colored ground with elements of blue. With elements of the ground used in the patch work patterning to the body. The is glazed to the inner body and the base is unglazed and like much of Tchalenko’s work the jug is not marked. Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market. In good condition.
