Paul Young Earthenware Studio Pottery Medallion Decorated Jug

About the Item

A tall and stylish British studio pottery jug made at Station Pottery by renowned potter Paul Young and dating from the latter 20th century. Paul Young is influenced by the work of many of the earlier Staffordshire potteries including Whieldon and Ralph Wood and his work recreates many of the features in these early earthenware pieces. This tall narrow shaped earthenware jug stands on a flat glazed base and is of bulbous shape with a shaped ridged top rim with a wide pouring spout. A shaped strap handle is applied to the side. The jug is applied with small raised roundels containing a starfish design and is decorated in yellow glazes with the body decorated with blue streaked glazes with brown glazes applied to the roundels, handle and top rim. The patterning is not dissimilar to the early works of Thomas Whieldon. There is the common fine crazing to the glazing which often results with the use of earthenware. A potters personal seal mark is applied to the base of the handle. Provenance: from the collection of a private gentleman and originating from the UK art market. In good condition.
