About the Item

An 18th-century blue porcelain wall platter, attributed to the Vincennes Porcelain Manufactory, featuring a painted portrait after Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725–1805). This large round piece is adorned with finely painted floral arabesques and soft gilded accents. At the center sits the melancholic figure of Thaïs, the beautiful penitent from Greek mythology, delicately rendered in classical style after the celebrated French artist. The expressive face, tender pose, and emotional depth reflect Greuze's iconic approach to moral portraiture and sensibility. The cobalt blue glaze, encircled by hand-painted blossoms in rose, blue, and white, frames the scene with elegance. The platter includes a pierced section on the back for wall display, making it a striking decorative piece for salons, libraries, or period interiors.
