About the Item

This large square hand painted porcelain planter was made in France ca. 1880's or earlier. It features two hand painted "portraits" of horses heads alternating with 2 sides of hand painted star-like decorative elements. The teal green ground provides a lovely contrast to the white cloud-like frames of the portraits. The borders of each panel and the feet, are molded into bamboo forms and painted to represent the color and texture of bamboo. Made in France, in very good condition with age related wear but no cracks, crazing or defects. A bit of stain at the bottom but nothing to detract from the overall rarity and beauty.
