Antique English Japonisme Gilt & Enameled Porcelain Plate Attributed to Bodley

About the Item

A fine antique English Aesthetic Movement porcelain plate. Attributed to Bodley. With a trompe l'oeil decorated Japanese fans (an uchiwa and a sensu) & precious objects to the plate. The uchiwa fan is painted and enameled with roses & a blue jay. The entire plate has rich gilt highlights throughout. This pattern seems to borrow heavily from Minton's Aesthetic Movement fan pattern plates. Simply a wonderful cabinet plate! Date: Late 19th Century, or earlier Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Condition Details: There is some wear to the enamel painted decoration. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: Attributed to Bodley Marks: Marked to the base with an English Registry mark for 1878 and a red cypher that reads MP2245. Measurements: Diameter: ca. 8 7/8 in. Height: ca. 7/8 in.
