Cut-Out Plate in Portuguese Earthenware, Coimbra
About the Item
Cut-out plate, in Portuguese earthenware, Frutuoso, from the Statutory of Coimbra. Polychrome decoration with stylized flowers and buds standing out for the explosion of vibrant colors and the intricate, geometric design.
The piece has a unique shape, with edges cut into soft curves that resemble petals or waves. The central decorative pattern adopts a wheel shape, with a harmonious composition of stylized flowers and geometric motifs radiating from the center to the edges. In the center, a green area in an interlaced pattern creates the focal point of the piece, surrounded by yellow and blue details that form a contrasting frame.
Floral elements are predominant, with petals in shades of light pink, detailed green leaves and blue outlines that help to highlight each component of the composition. The use of blue to outline the divisions of the plate creates a sense of organization and movement, guiding the observer's gaze across the entire surface.
