About the Item
"Lilies of the Valley" Decorative Plate Flower Design made by Villeroy & Boch"
Made: fine bone china
The world-famous Alexander's Collection design was originally created as a sketch for a carpet by
Alexander Anisimov, the brand's chief designer and artist. Then, based on this design, a limited edition collection for the production of marble mosaics was created.
By order of Alexander's Collection, the French Bernardaud manufactory made the first prototype as a single copy of a decorative plate using this design.
The second prototype of the decorative plate with this design was handmade with the famous Villeroy & Boch company, Metropolitan Collection in fine bone china.
Masters of painting on porcelain from the famous Hermitage Museum in St.Petersburg executed this work by order of Alexander's Collection in a single copy.
History of design.
The history of the design traces back to the Romanov imperial family. Empress Maria, the wife of Emperor Paul I, who was famous for her impeccable taste, collected the best works of art for her palace while travelling in Europe.
Returning home, she first appeared at a ball in a dress, decorated with a small bunch of half flowers, instead of the usual diamond brooch. The whole court decided that this was a new fashion, brought by her from Europe, and the courtiers rushed after their empress, inventing the most incredible combinations of wildflowers to decorate ball dresses.
The Empress's favourite flowers were lilies of the valley. Alexander Anisimov, a designer of Alexander's Collection brand creates this unique design in the form of a glade of lilies of the valley, where the flowers are gathered in the form of an open fan.
