About the Item

Meissen 19th century most lovely pair of figurines: Shepherd with bird and shepherdess with birdcage. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler (model created circa 1750). Made circa 1860-1870. Designer: Johann Joachim Kaendler (born in 1706 near Dresden/Germany, died 1775 in Meissen). Kaendler was chief sculptor at Meissen manufactory as from 1742 until the year 1775. He is the most famous modeller Meissen manufactory ever had and created well-known series such as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers (with Reinicke and Meyer) , Gallant Figurines, etc. Subject: Tall shepherd figurines standing on high rocaille bases. There is a Young shepherd wearing a Rococo wig visible who seizes a black tricorn hat/he is accompanied by a lovely lamb sitting on earth and watching him. Additionally, the shepherd holds a small bird with spread wings on right raised hand. The elegant Rococo shepherd is clad in a jacket with white shirt, knee breeches with stockings and buckled shoes. The shepherd supports himself on a tree's stump. There is a Young shepherdess visible who holds a birdcage, its door has just been opened by her: The eluded bird has then sat down on shepherd's hand. A lovely sheep lies next to her feet, too. The shepherdess supports herself on a small tree's stump attached behind her. The woman is clad in a long dress with corselette and apron, further with cloak as well as she has buckled shoes. Marks: These Meissen Figurines Are Marked By Blue Meissen Sword Mark Of Middle Of 19th Century, Made Circa 1860-70 (Meissen Sword Mark With Pommels On Hilts) / First Quality. Further Marks Existing: Shepherd: Model Number 6 / Former's Number 121 / Painter's Number 61. Shepherdess: Model Number 6x / Former's Number 121 / Painter's Number 61. Size: Height: 10.43 inches (Shepherdess) & 10.23 inches (Shepherd). Diameter of base: 3.93 inches. Condition: Excellent/there aren't any damages existing.
