About the Item

An important Meissen porcelain life-size seated monkey figure by J. J. Kandler with provenance from the Vanderbilt collection. Cobalt blue crossed swords mark inside the bottom of the tree stump. This highly detailed and exquisitely lifelike carved monkey eagerly devours his brightly colored apple exposing his pink tongue. The tree stump is expertly carved and painted to realistic perfection. circa 1830.
