First quality. Dating: made circa 1860-1870. Material: Porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted. Technique: Handmade porcelain. Model number E 23 / painter's number 28. Measures: Total height 10.23 inches (= 26.0 cm), diameter of base 5.31 inches (= 13.5 cm). Modeller: Probably Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) / since 1731 modeller of Meissen manufactory, he is one of the best modellers Meissen manufactory ever had. - This figurine group 'THALIA' was created before the year 1772, based on a design probably made by Kaendler or by his circle. Detailed informations: Meissen Gorgeous and rarest figurine group: Muse 'Thalia.' -- It is a gorgeous figurine group - Thalia is depicted here, it is one of the Nine Muses of Greek Mythology: She is Muse of comedy as well as of idyllic poetry. In this context her name means "flourishing", because the praises in her songs flourish through time. She was portrayed as a young woman with a joyous air, holding a comic mask in her hand. [Wikipedia]. -- Thalia clad in antique garments - seizing the mask of comedy by left hand - has taken place on a rocky seat, turning herself towards a little boy who has climbed up a leafy tree being visible behind the muse: The child holds a mask, too, namely in a manner so that this mask is peeking out from behing tree's branches... -- the figurine group is based on round rocky support edged by laurel leaves.
