First quality  Dating: 19th century / made circa 1870 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo Male gardener (Model 2868) created by Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706 - 1775) circa 1762. Kaendler was chief sculptor at Meissen manufactory as from 1742 until the year 1775. He is the most famous modeller Meissen manufactory ever had and created well-known series such as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers (with Reinicke and Meyer), Gallant Figurines, Asian Figurines etc. Additionally, Kaendler made, too, excellent models of animal figurines as well as of stunningly decorated vases. Female Gardener (Model B 65) created by Johann Carl Schoenheit (1730 - 1805) circa 1767. Schoenheit was assistant of Kaendler: He has been active at manufactory since 1745 / since the year 1765 he designed own models, too. In later period - after Kaendler's death in year 1775 - Schoenheit was colleague of Acier. The sculptor retired in 1794. Detailed description: Pair of tall gardeners / couple (male and female) standing on square rocaille bases. The sculptured figurines are of finest as well as of most remarkable appearance ! a young female gardener clad in fine Rococo dress with underskirt wearing hat and buckled shoes holds a basket filled with flowers. Additionally, the woman seizes a wreath of flowers with right hand. a young male gardener clad in elegant Rococo garments - jacket, vest, shirt, knee breeches, striped stockings - wearing Rococo wig and buckled shoes holds a basket filled with flowers, too. He seizes a flower bundle with right hand. - Both figurines are supported at backside: Leafy tree stump (woman) / rock and pedestal (man).
