George Clews Tunstall Chameleon Ware Persian Pattern Jug A very stylish Art Deco George Clews & Co, Tunstall, Chameleon Ware reproduction of Persian Art handled pottery jug dating from around 1925. The jug stands on a rounded base and has a slightly compressed wide four sided round shaped body with a narrow short neck and wide pinched pouring spout. A small handle is applied to the upper body and neck. The jug is decorated with relief molded scrolling panels to eight side with black and red raised outline against a light green ground. An abstract floral and geometric design panel is hand painted to the front with of the jug with similar hand painted coloring applied around the top rim and to the handle. The patterns are set against a sponge like patterned ground in blue, yellow and brown. The jug has a printed makers marks to the base with a relief molded REPRODUCTION OF PERSIAN ART around the rim of the base and is numbered 356 and 101/105. Provenance: acquired in the UK Art Market. In good condition with minor surface rubbing associated with age and use. A fine and interesting display piece.
