About the Item

This is a rare Pot-Pourri Vase and Cover, hand painted in the Jardiniere pattern, made by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England and dating to circa 1890. This is a rare piece potted as a globular vase with a narrow neck, raised on a low foot and with a small cover having a number of holes within it. The pattern is called "Jardiniere" which is hand enamelled and gilded over a printed outline. This pattern is one of Mason's earliest designs, as illustrated on page 146 of a guide to Mason's patent ironstone patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. It is fully marked to the base, with Mason's rounded crown printed in blue with a patter/date number hand painted in red. Overall a very decorative Mason's Vase in a rare shape.
