Spode Neo-classical Greek pattern blue soup plates, Refreshment for Phliasian Horseman, Set of twelve (12) Early-19th century The Spode Greek pattern pottery plate is printed in blue with "Refreshment for Phliasian Horseman" in the central panel with neo-classical scenes on panels and urns on the border. This scene shows that after the Phliasian victory in the Peloponnesian War, the horseman receives a drink. Mark: Painted workmen's marks in blue; 1 withi mpressed1; 3 with impressed 2; 1 with impressed 4 Condition: Good, one with hairline Dimensions: 9 1/4 inches x 1 1/2 inches high. The neo-classical “Greek” pattern, introduced in 1806, catered to the demand for classical subjects created by the Greek Revival style. The images were taken from “Outlines from the Figures and Compositions upon the Greek, Roman and Etruscan Vases of the late Sir William Hamilton; with engraved borders. Drawn and engraved by the late Mr. Kirk”. This was probably the first multi-scene pattern introduced at the Spode Factory.
