Set of Three Original Mathieu Matégot Dishes or Platters

About the Item

Nice matched Matégot vintage set in vintage condition. Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001) was a Hungarian-born French designer and artist. He is known for his innovative use of metal tubing and perforated metal sheets, which he incorporated into his furniture designs and wall decorations. Matégot studied at the Budapest School of Arts and Crafts, where he learned traditional techniques such as furniture making and wrought ironwork. After moving to France in 1931, he worked for a number of furniture companies before opening his own design studio in 1950. Matégot's furniture designs are characterized by their lightness and simplicity, as well as their use of innovative materials. He often used metal tubing and perforated metal sheets to create pieces that were both functional and decorative. Some of his most famous designs include the "Nagasaki" chair, the "Kangourou" table, and the "Copacabana" armchair. In addition to his furniture designs, Matégot also created a number of wall decorations, including metal panels and tapestries. His work is recognized for its abstract, geometric shapes and its use of bold colors. Today, Mathieu Matégot's designs are considered icons of mid-century modernism, and his work continues to inspire designers and collectors around the world.
