19th Century - Sterling Silver - Superb Coffee Pot - Hallmarked:- London 1889

About the Item

Sterling silver, large sized, baluster shaped Coffee Pot Made in London in 1889, by Joseph & Horace Savory, trading as the Goldsmiths Alliance, Their showroom in Regent Street, London. An excellent set of identifying hallmarks, to the right at the bottom of the handle - picture No.7. The hallmarks applied by the London Assay Office, explained:- Lion - Sterling silver guarantee mark. Upper case Q - date letter for London 1889 Leopard`s head - London Assay Office mark. JHS - Maker`s mark for Joseph & Horace Savory Queen`s head - duty mark - shows that duty has been paid to the Crown A delightful, generous sized coffee pot of baluster shape. Profusely decorated with foliage and flowers, and with heavy gadrooned bands at the top and bottom. The dome shaped lid mounted with a globe and flame finial. A "C" shaped black, wooden handle with thumb rest. A vacant cartouche - centre right of the spout, and an engraved cartouche - WR - the opposite side. Appears, never to have been used - In very clean, polished condition. Ready for immediate presentation and use. No Dents - No Scratches - No Scuffs - NO FAULTS. Overall height:- 285 millimetres / 11.2 inches. Pot diameter:- 135 mms. / 5.31 ins. Spout to handle:- 230 mms. / 9.06 ins. Gross weight:- 770 grams / 24.76 troy ounces.
