"R. WALLACE & SONS MFG CO - Wallingford CT - The founder of the firm was Robert Wallace who began in 1833 his own manufacture of Britannia (a pewter alloy) spoons. In 1834 Wallace started the manufacture of spoons in German silver, supplying his production to Hall, Elton & Co until 1849. That year Wallace entered in partnership with J.B. Pomeroy manufacturing German silver spoons on contract for Fred R. Curtis & Co of Hartford and Britannia spoons for Hall, Elton & Co and Edgar Atwater of Wallingford. In 1855 was formed the R. Wallace & Co in partnership with Samuel Simpson, H.C. Wilcox, W.W. Lyman and Isaac C. Lewis (partners in the Meriden Britannia Co). In 1865 a new contract was made and the firm was organised under the name of Wallace, Simpson & Co. In 1870 Robert Wallace took entire control of the firm and the corporate name changed again to R.Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. in partnership with his sons Robert B. and William J. and his son-in-law W.J. A magnificent and rare fully restored antique Art Deco silver plate serving cart, circa 1930 in date.
Serve your roast beef in style!!
This stunning trolley is suitable for serving cooked meats such as roast beef, lamb, and turkey.
It features a vented silver plated locking retractable revolving dome which opens to a detachable well and water tank over 2 spirit burners.
The water tank has two recesses with containers for gravy or vegetables, as well as an aluminium carving board. It has a vented screw knob for filling the tank with water and for vapour or steam escape.
The sides are fitted with handles and a detachable plate holder, set upon an oval walnut cabriole leg base.
The middle shelf is fitted with an oval silver plated utensil tray and the whole is mounted on four rubberized wheels.
This superb piece was crafted by perhaps London's finest silversmith of the time, Drakes Silversmiths of Brewer Street, London W1.
It is a Drakes model, D6, No: 824 and bears the silver plated label. It is one of the most desirable models they made, with the revolving dome, which makes it very easy to use.
This truly exceptional piece is offered in superb fully restored overall condition.

In really excellent condition having been beautifully repolished in our workshops, the silver plated parts have all been beautifully replated by a top London silversmith, please see photos for confirmation.

Often called the “Queen of metals,” silver has been universally adored for thousands of years. It is easy to see why it has always been sought after: It is durable, strong and beautiful. The other 7.5 percent in sterling silver is typically sourced from copper.
Neoclassical-style sterling-silver goods in Europe gained popularity in the late 18th century — a taste for sterling-silver tableware as well as tea sets had taken shape — while in the United States, beginning in the 19th century, preparing the dinner table with sterling-silver flatware had become somewhat of a standard practice. Indeed, owning lots of silver goods during the Victorian era was a big deal. Back then, displaying fine silver at home was a status symbol for middle-class American families. And this domestic silver craze meant great profitability for legendary silversmith manufacturers such as Reed & Barton, Gorham Manufacturing Company and the International Silver Company, which was incorporated in Meriden, Connecticut, in 1898, a major hub of silver manufacturing nicknamed “Silver City.”
Today, special occasions might call for ceremonial silver designed by Tiffany & Co. or the seductive sterling-silver cutlery from remarkable Danish silversmith Georg Jensen, but there really doesn’t have to be an event on the calendar to trot out your finest tableware.
Event- and wedding-planning company maestro Tara Guérard says that some “investment pieces,” such as this widely enamored alloy, should see everyday use, and we’re inclined to agree.
“Sterling-silver flatware is a must-have that you can use every single day, even to eat cereal,” she says. “Personally, I want a sterling-silver goblet set for 12 to 20; I would use them every time I had a dinner party.
