Antique Charles I English Sterling Silver Chalice
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Charles I English sterling silver chalice; an addition to our collectable range of 17th century silverware.
This exceptional antique Charles I sterling silver chalice has a tapering cylindrical bell-shaped form onto a circular knopped pedestal and domed circular foot.
The surface of this chalice is plain and encircled with bands of tooled decoration.
This 17th century chalice is one of the finest of its type you could hope to acquire; early pieces such as this are often crudely crafted and a poor quality, this particular piece however is in exceptional condition.
Note: After surviving the Great Fire of London the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. Due to this unfortunate event we are unable to associate a maker to this chalice.
Condition
This impressive 17th century sterling silver chalice is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the chalice and lion passant to the underside of the foot are all very clear for a piece of this period and have wear in keeping with age.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of antique silverware.

Rare Antique English Oak & Solid Sterling Silver Tray, 1904
By Martin Hall & Co.
Located in Bath, GB
A rare opportunity to acquire an Edwardian Oak tray with solid silver fittings, rather than silver plate usually found.
Everything you see in "silver" is solid English silver, a good heavy gauge, there is a good weight of silver here, there are many hallmarks for Sheffield 1904 together with the maker's mark for the well renowned Martin Hall.
Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall (Martin, Hall & Co.)
The original firm was formed in Sheffield in the year 1820 by Henry Wilkinson and John Roberts who traded as Wilkinson & Roberts. The firm's chronology is: John Roberts (1836), Roberts & Hall ( 1846), Martin Hall & Co (1854), Martin Hall & Co Ltd (1866-1936).
