Antique Victorian Solid Silver Milk Pitcher Jug with Ornate Chased Design - 1863

About the Item

We are delighted to offer this magnificently decorated antique solid silver Victorian milk pitcher made in London, 1863 with marks for Henry Wilkinson. This pitcher features a most wonderful three-dimensional design with high embossing. The entire body is sculpted with beautiful proportions and its surface is deeply hand-chased with floral, foliate and bird motifs. The applied cast handle is equally attractive with a lovely curvature terminating with further foliate chased decorations which seamlessly blends in with the rest of the design. What is particularly impressive with this pitcher is the level of detailing and depth of its decoration with a very crisp, high relief and an immaculately stippled background throughout that creates a beautiful contrast - a true testament to its quality and the time that has gone into crafting a single milk pitcher. Its interior gilding (gold on top of solid silver), not only presents a contrasting tone but also prevents the liquid held within from reacting/oxidising with the silver. Overall, an exquisite example of finely decorated Victorian silverware in a modest form factor, ideal for practical usage or for decorating an interior to elevate its splendour. A full set of English hallmarks are present on the side of the pitcher. *Please note: all images with other items are for display purposes only, this listing is for the item mentioned in the title. Antique Victorian Solid Silver Gilt Naturalistic Leaf Spoon Pair, 1842
By Sebastian Crespel II
Located in London, GB
We are delighted to offer this fine and exquisite pair of early Victorian solid silver tea spoons made in London 1842 with the maker's mark of Sebastian Crespell. The pair features a highly ornate and desirable 'naturalistic' design with the entirety of the spoon-shaped as a leaf and branch. Intricate engravings on the leaf bowls and the realistic form of the stem/branch indicate a high level of craftsmanship and artistry by the silversmith. Upon close inspection, the asymmetric and naturally flowing design is further apparent and is a delightful touch. Not only are these spoons practical for a wide variety of uses from tea to desserts, but are a modest yet discerning addition to any collection or interior decor for a sophisticated and nature-inspired look. The pair is gilded with a yellowish/lemon hue that has been worn and patinated in a very attractive colour/tone. A full set of English hallmarks are present on the reverse side of the bowl. The body of this exceptional example of antique silverware is further ornamented with two large scrolling palmette style designs, all on a matte background. The lower portion of the jug is encompassed with an interlacing scalloped style pendant bud design. The neck is embellished to the upper portion with impressive gadroon decoration to the shaped rim. The jug is fitted with an exceptional hinged hallmarked cover, surmounted with an impressive cast leaf decorated thumbpiece, accented with further scrolling decoration to the domed portion.
