English Antique, Sovereign Coin & Stamps Case, Hallmarked Birmingham 1911
About the Item
Antique Solid Silver - COIN & STAMPS COMBINATION CASE.
Made in 1911, and with a full English hallmark for Birmingham 1911.
With the maker's mark - W.H.H, for William Hair Haseler, Vyse Street, Birmingham.
A superb Sovereign Case, with two spring loaded coin holders.
Designed to hold up to four sovereigns and five half sovereigns.
The first two pictures show coins in place - on the left, the American $10 of 1880, which, although a little heavier, is the same size as a sovereign; and on the right, the English half sovereign of 1919.
Between the two is the standard English 1p. stamp.
Picture three shows the case without coins or stamps. All three compartments have a hatched surface so that the items don`t slip when in place. The internal spring will keep the coins and stamps held firmly in the raised position.
On the end is a suspension ring, originally designed to be attached to a watch chain. The case would, normally, be carried in a waistcoat pocket.
