English Box of 12 STERLING SILVER TEASPOONS + TONGS Hallmarked:-Birmingham 1904

About the Item

Sterling Silver - superb box of 12 LARGE TEASPOONS + TONGS, all in beautiful, unused condition. Made in 1904, and with an English import mark for Birmingham 1904. The maker`s mark is G.M.Co., for the Gorham Manufacturing Company, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. G.M.Co. also has a UK address at Sterling Works, Barr Street, Birmingham, but as the hallmark shows the triangular Birmingham import mark, then it follows that these spoons were actually made in the USA and exported to the UK. Very attractive, large teaspoons; the stems widening to a pretty, pear shaped terminal. Both arms of the tongs are shaped like the spoons, but the bowls, instead of being an ordinary oval shape, are cast in a bird`s feet, with claws on the end of the toes. The original box is still in excellent condition, even after 119 years. Interesting, rectangular shape, with black leatherette on the outside. The spoons sit in fitted places, on maroon velvet, and the lid is lined with white silk. Spoon length:- 13.3 cms / 5.24 inches. Total spoons + tongs weight:- 208 grams / 6.69 ounces. Average spoon weight:- 15.5 grams - 0.50 ounces.
