Georgian Sterling Silver Snuff Box by Joseph Ash I – London, 1802

About the Item

Georgian Sterling Silver Snuff Box by Joseph Ash I – London, 1802 An early 19th-century sterling silver snuff box of gently curved rectangular form, made in London in 1802 by Joseph Ash I. The hinged lid is engraved with an elegant script monogram within a finely dotted oval cartouche. The interior is richly gilt and bears full hallmarks to the base and corresponding marks to the inside of the lid. The base marks are clear and well-struck; the lid marks are partially rubbed, consistent with use. The box closes firmly with a secure snap and retains a pleasing tactile quality. Overall condition is good, with typical age-related surface marks, a few small dinks—primarily to the lid—and general wear consistent with over 200 years of use. The silver has developed a mellow patina. Dimensions: 7 cm x 3.5 cm x 2 cm Weight: 38.2 grams Origin: London, England Date: 1802 Maker: Joseph Ash I Medium: Sterling silver, gilt interior Style: Georgian
