About the Item
This ornate pair of sterling silver knife rests was made in Sheffield, England, and is fully hallmarked for the year 1837. The maker is Harry Wigfull of the esteemed firm Lee & Wigfull. Each rest features finely detailed repoussé work with elaborate scroll and shell motifs at both ends, creating a rich and balanced Rococo-inspired design. The bar connecting the ends is smooth and cylindrical with subtle decorative rings, contrasting beautifully with the ornate terminals. These knife rests are not only practical pieces of table silver but also elegant examples of early Victorian craftsmanship, showcasing the artistry and precision of one of Sheffield’s notable silversmiths.
