About the Item
A Stunning Silver and Enamel Mezuzah Case made by Henryk Winograd in the United States in 1991.
Henryk Winograd (1916-2008) was a master silversmith who created beautiful mezuzah cases. He immigrated to the United States from his native Poland in 1972 and began work as a master silversmith and jeweler. He created high-relief designs by hammering pure .999 silver into intricate molds. He created many mezuzah cases throughout his career.
This Mezuzah case is one example of the remarkable craftsmanship that Winograd used when creating Judaic pieces.
Mezuzah Case has a prominent oval shape with two pierced omega shapes in its top and bottom for hanging purposes. The front of the case is gorgeously chased with long sprouting acanthus leaf branches and leaves encompassing the center cartouche.
Multicolored enamel in resplendent foliate designs adorn the center cartouche each design is enhanced by its border fashioned with twisting filigree. At the center, a protruding Decalogue is applied and similarly bordered with twisting filigree.
Signed and marked at the back of the Mezuzah case.
