Sterling Silver OLD ENGLISH PATTERN - GRAPE SHEARS - Hallmarked:- Sheffield 1930

About the Item

A superb pair of Grape Scissors or shears, made in the most sought after Old English pattern. Used to cut a bunch of grapes from the vine, but also to grip the cut stem so that the bunch can be lifted down, carefully.. Make sure the top side of the scissors is facing downwards with the grapes, otherwise the grapes will fall to the floor and you will be left holding the cut stem!!!!!!!!!!! Made in 1930, during the reign of King George V. With a full set of English hallmarks which tell us that it was made in Sheffield in 1930 - confirmed by the lower case letter "n". The hallmarks can by found on the back of both handles - a full set on one, and just a lion on the other. The maker`s mark is W H & Ss Ld.,, for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.. Their maker`s mark is registered with the Sheffield Assay Office. The other hallmarks are:- Lion - Sterling silver guarantee mark. Crown - Sheffield assay office mark. Date letter n - for 1930 These scissors are plain, without decoration and will have, originally, been in a canteen of Old English cutlery. The pattern is on both sides - for this we use the term "double struck". They are in wonderful unused condition. Length:- 180 millimetres / 7.09 inches. Weight:- 131 grams / 4.21 ounces.
