English Sterling Silver GRAPE SHEARS or SCISSORS Marked:-Sheffield 1904

About the Item

A superb pair of Grape Scissors or shears, made in a variation of Kings shape. Distinctly raised border, giving extra strength - very sturdy and well made. Used to cut a bunch of grapes from the vine, but also to grip the cut stem so that the bunch can be lifted down, carefully.. Make sure the top side of the scissors is facing downwards with the grapes, otherwise the grapes will fall to the floor and you will be left holding the cut stem!!!!!!!!!!! Made in 1904, during the reign of King Edward VII. With a full set of English hallmarks which tell us that it was made in Sheffield in 1904 - confirmed by the lower case letter "w". The full set of hallmarks can by found on the back of the scissor lower jaw. - and just a lion on the top side of the joining screw. The maker`s mark is W H & Ss Ld.,, for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.. Their maker`s mark is registered with the Sheffield Assay Office. The other hallmarks are:- Lion - Sterling silver guarantee mark. Crown - Sheffield assay office mark.
