Sterling Silver, Old English & Shell, Soup Ladle, Irish Maker, London, 1903

About the Item

A superb sterling silver - Soup or Punch Ladle. An ornate decorated shell pattern bowl - almost perfectly round - decorated on both sides. The Old English shaped stem is beautifully engraved with leaves and a flower. At the terminal, a shaped cartouche containing a gothic letter "I". A full complement of English hallmarks showing that the ladle was hallmarked in London, but the maker`s mark is Irish - W & S, for West & Son, Grafton Street, Dublin. Hallmarks:- Lower case h - date letter for London 1903 Leopard`s head - London Assay Office Lion - Sterling silver guarantee Length:- 302 millimetres / 11.89 inches. Bowl diameter:- 90 mms. / 3.54 ins. Weight:- 184 grams / 5.92 ounces.
