English Silver, Tea Strainer '1894' & Butter Shell '1977', London & Sheffield

About the Item

Two delightful pieces of domestic Sterling Silver Victorian Butter Shell and an Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Kings pattern Tea Strainer. The Butter Shell with Victorian English hallmarks showing that it saw made in London in 1894. A perfect shell shape, with a plain lift to allow it to be passed along the dining table. Mounted on three ball feet. A superb piece of top quality silver. The hallmarks, applied by the London Assay Office:- Leopard`s head - London Assay Office Lion - Sterling silver guarantee Upper case T - date letter for London 1894 Maker`s mark - GMJ, for George Maudsley Jackson - on behalf of Josiah Williams & Co., St. Augustine`s Parade, Bristol. Length:- 126 millimetres / 4.96 inches. Width:- 103 mms. / 4.06 ins. Height:- 25 mms. / 0.98 ins. Weight:- 64.2 grams / 2.06 ounces. The Tea Strainer with English hallmarks to show that it was made in Sheffield in 1977. A delightful, pierced and decorated, round bowl with two hooks for attaching to the side if the cup. The extended handle will overlap the other side, and the end to make a lift. Note that the handle decoration is in Kings Pattern (on both sides. Hallmarks applied by the Sheffield Assay office:- Rose - recent Sheffield Assay Office mark ( previously a crown) Lion - Sterling silver guarantee Upper case C - Sheffield year letter for 1977 Queen Elizabeth II head - Commemorative Silver Jubilee mark. Length:- 132 millimetres / 5.20 inches. Width:- 56 mms. / 2.20 ins. Weight:- 44.6 grams / 1.43 ounces. Both pieces are in superb, unused condition, with no faults.
