About the Item

“Focus de Luxe” Flatware Set by Folke Arström for Gense, Sweden, 1950s A rare and iconic 63-piece “Focus de Luxe” flatware set, designed in 1956 by celebrated Swedish designer Folke Arström (1907–1997) for Gense, Eskilstuna, Sweden. This design classic from the 1950s, made from stainless steel with original black nylon handles, is considered one of the most enduring examples of Scandinavian modernism. The set includes: • 12 dinner knives (length 20 cm / 7.9 in) • 12 dinner forks (length 20 cm / 7.9 in) • 12 dinner spoons (length 20 cm / 7.9 in) • 12 sandwich knives (length 15 cm / 5.9 in) • 12 sandwich forks (length 15 cm / 5.9 in) • 1 sauce ladle (length 18 cm / 7.1 in) • 1 salad set – fork and spoon (each 27 cm / 10.6 in) This exact model was selected by the New York Times as one of the 100 best designed products of modern time, which has led to renewed production by Gense (now Danish-owned). However, the reissues are of noticeably lower quality and made with POM plastic instead of the original nylon handles. This offering includes an original bilingual 1950s Gense brochure (Swedish/English) illustrating the line. A truly unique opportunity to acquire a complete and original vintage set – a museum-quality collector’s item for the discerning design enthusiast. The original is always the original. All pieces are in very good used condition with no cracks in the nylon handles. Wear consistent with age and use.
