Bellevue Rye Floral Design Art Pottery Teapot & Cover
About the Item
A rare antique art pottery teapot and cover decorated with floral designs from the Bellevue pottery in Rye, Sussex and dating from the 19th century. Typical of Rye pottery the earthenware teapot is in typical Rye style and color applied with flowers and garlands and combined green, brown and white glazes. The teapot is of squat rounded form with a raised loop handle to one side a short squat pouring spout. A cover with a cross over handle sits within the top recess. The teapot has a repeat pattern of small white flower heads with single leaves applied around the body in green and white on a mottled brown glazed ground. The handle has a relief textured garland or scarf applied to outer edge with similar a similar design applied around the spout. The teapot has an incised Rye mark to the base.
In good overall condition with wear associated with age and use and with some glaze chipping to the floral designs and with a chip to edge of the spout.
