About the Item

Exceptional achievement in modeled stoneware with great attention to details giving each piece an intrinsic decorative value. Handwritten signature on the back of the chessboard. Measurements (cm) : from 14 for the kings to 8 for the pawns. The condition is excellent except for 4 small lacks of material on 3 riders - mane and base - Born in 1936, André Albrieux studied ceramics at the Sèvres high school between 1953 and 1957 before attending the Paris School of Arts and Crafts in 1957, where she met Michel Hirlet, who would become her partner. Andrée exhibited regularly her works at the Decorators Artists and Sacred Art exhibitions from 1958 to 1963. From then on, she formed an artistic partnership with Michel Hirlet, resulting in a unique and rigorous body of work, which was celebrated in a retrospective in 2017 at the Ceramic National Museum of Sèvres.
