About the Item
A wonderful, unique, and quite engaging original dot painting titled "Women's Ceremony, Ochre Pits, Milky Way" by indigenous Australian Aboriginal artist Janet Forrester Ngala (Born 1936. Also known as Janet Forrester Nangala and Janet Nala Forrester) who began painting in the 1980s. Her work depicts Dreamings or creation stories. As these stories/tales are inherited and passed down with each subsequent generation and considered sacred by tribal members, artists protect specifics by working in an abstract style. Ngala frequently represents the Milky Way in her paintings. Australian Aboriginal people believe that the galaxy is home to ancestral spirits and that each star within the galaxy represents a deceased ancestor/ tribal member or animal.
The work is signed by the artist on the verso and the original gallery information/paperwork and signed certificate of authenticity (COA) is attached to the frame backing.
