About the Item

A wonderful, unique, and very engaging original antique/vintage indigenous Australian Aboriginal dreaming painting featuring a rainbow serpent- a prominent figure in Aboriginal mythology/history. Revered by many Aboriginal tribes, this mythical creature is a symbol of creation, fertility, and natural forces (including the shaping of water and landscapes). The Rainbow Serpent is also viewed as a spiritual guardian and remains a central part of Aboriginal Dreamtime stories which are at the core of their belief in the powerful connection between the earth, people, and spirituality. The painting is made with natural earth ochre pigments which are hand painted on natural organic flattened stringybark wood panels taken usually from eucalyptus trees. This piece appears to have some age to it and as such somewhat rare. A striking and original work. Would be a great addition to any Australian Aboriginal or tribal art/artifacts collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting.
