About the Item

A Large natural verdigris full-bodied copper Cockerel weathervane is a fine and striking example of both Folk art and functionality. Traditionally used atop Churches, Barns and Homes to indicate wind direction. Crafted in copper this example features a proud full bodied Cockerel in full cry. Finely detailed plumage, an arched tail and retaining his original feet, posed in alert stance and his open beak indicating him being in full cry, always ready to indicate a change in the wind. Over time, exposure to the elements have bestowed a beautiful natural verdigris patination enhancing its visual appeal but also authenticating its age and originality. Mounted to a bespoke museum stand for interior display. France, Circa 1860.
