About the Item

A fabulous, traditional gilt brass, bronze and cut crystal chandelier of nine lights, dating from the second half of the 19th century. This outstanding piece is richly decorated with sweeping crystal chains and glittering pendants encircling a crisply cut central baluster stem, leading down to nine delicate bronze arms. These radiate outwards from the base, terminating in narrow candle holders, a profusion of pencil, teardrop and cravat-shaped crystals cascading from below each one. The wirework top canopy is adorned with cut cut-crystal 'pencil' drops and star-shaped rosettes, while a delicately faceted ball completes the crystal arrangement below.
