French 19th Century Empire St. Alabaster and Ormolu Chandelier

About the Item

A beautiful and most impressive French 19th century Empire st. alabaster and ormolu chandelier. The nine arm twelve light chandelier is centered by a striking foliate acorn shaped ormolu finial below lovely foliate designs and the exquisite Alabaster dome which houses three concealed light bulbs emitting a beautiful warm glow and showcasing the most decorative veins. The dome displays fine mottled designs with a recessed background with richly chased pierced scrolled foliate ormolu mounts and striking rosettes from where the three pairs and three single arms branch out. The single arms display striking inverted eagle heads with rings in their beaks supporting foliate candle cups while the pairs of arms display a remarkable richly chased winged maiden draped in a wonderfully executed flowing robe holding a mottled etched candle cup in each hand. Three elegant chains with oblong links and delicate palmette designs lead upwards to the impressive top crown with a central inverted acorn finial and striking pierced palmettes.
