French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Patinated Bronze and Crystal Lantern

About the Item

An exceptional and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze and crystal lantern. The lantern is modeled off an antechamber lantern still situated in the Palais de Versailles which was featured in Henry Havard's 19th century Ameublement dictionary. The lantern is centered by a richly chased bottom foliate finial below lovely acanthus leaves. The body displays a fabulous shape and symmetry with a stunning array of thick crystal windows with beveled edges and framed within an impressive patinated bronze cage. Above are additional acanthus leaves below the striking crown shaped canopy with royal Fleur de Lys and ball reserves. All original patina throughout.
