Original Erik Gunnar Asplund 'Parachute' Ceiling Lamp in Glass and Steel, 1950s

About the Item

Original ceiling lamp (model '6022' / 'Parachute'), designed by Erik Gunnar Asplund in the 1920s. Produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in 1958-59. Made from green-lacquered metal, shade in matte opal glass. Rare to come to market, this exceptional suspension lamp was designed by renowned Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund (1885–1940) in the 1920s and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in 1958-59. Suspended by three green-lacquered steel chains, its large matte opal glass shade evokes the form of a parachute, hence its name. A remarkable example of Asplund’s design sensibility, this lamp is not only a striking piece of 20th-century Swedish craftsmanship but also a coveted collector’s item. Erik Gunnar Asplund, “GA9” Wall Lights for ASEA, Sweden 1940s
By Hans Bergström, ASEA, Lisa Johansson-Pape, Erik Gunnar Asplund
Located in Munster, NRW
