Ph5 Pendant by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in Blue and Grey, Denmark

About the Item

PH5 pendant by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in blue and grey, Denmark This very famous pendant by Poul Henningsen consists of various layers of aluminium in the colors grey and blue. The rounded forms and different widths create a beautiful shadow play. Most light falls downwards, but also horizontally there is a playful light fall. This makes that the lamp shines on itself and this creates a warm glow in the room. The mother of Poul Henningsen was allergic for direct light so her son tried to create a lamp where the light bulb would never be visible. You can find this in all of his designs, from the Charlottenborg to the Artichoke. The pendant is in an excellent condition and it has minor traces of use. The lamp is in working condition and ready for use.

Poul Henningsen Ph5 Mini Pendant in Monochrome Blue for Louis Poulsen
By Louis Poulsen, Poul Henningsen
Located in Tilburg, NL
Poul Henningsen PH5 Mini pendant for Louis Poulsen. Designed 1958, Mini in 2017. New, current production. Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes made to the shape and Size of incandescent bulbs by bulb manufacturers, naming it after the Size of the pendant’s main shade, which is 50 cm in diameter. When the lamp was introduced, he wrote, typically daringly, about how he had lost faith that the manufacturers of incandescent light bulbs would ever learn to consider common sense or have the consumer’s best interest at heart: “I have accepted fate, and with Louis Poulsen´s permission I have designed a PH fixture, which can be used with any kind of light source, Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs. Although a fluorescent tube would be too much to ask in the existing form!” At the time, now one knew that the PH 5 would become synonymous with the PH light...
